BETTENDORF, Iowa – The Northeast Community College men's soccer team scored a season-high seven goals on Saturday, taking down Scott Community College 7-0 in Iowa Community College Athletic Conference action in Bettendorf, Iowa.
The Hawks (2-5, 1-2 ICCAC) did their damage in the second period when Tiago Da Costa found the net in the 52nd minute off a pass from Yuri Rocha. Minutes later it was Da Costa again, scoring his second goal of the game.
Leading 2-0, Alex Wilcock gave the Hawks breathing room after scoring his first goal of the game from Rocha. Two minutes later, Da Costa found the net once more for a hat trick from Mario Gonzalez.
In the 68th minute, Rocha continued to dish out assists, finding Gonzalez for his first goal of the match. The Hawks didn't stop there as Rocky Guevara found the net off a header from Rocha. Finally, with 30 seconds remaining, Ricardo Goldner gave the Hawks their seventh point of the game on an unassisted shot from outside the penalty-kick box.
"I felt the boys played a good first half," Head Coach Chad Miller said. "We moved the ball well and created chances, but our shots were a bit off target. Our nemesis all season so far has been the second half. We have given up a lot to the other team in the second half. Today we were a different team. Our offense came alive and we moved the ball around very well and gave ourselves a lot of scoring opportunities that we took advantage of."
The Hawks out-shot Scott 38-7. Goalie Jose Ogaz tallied two saves in the net.
The Hawks battle Iowa Lakes Community College at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Norfolk Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
