Hawks unable to tame Iowa Central on the road

FORT DODGE, Iowa – The Northeast Community College baseball team had a difficult time overcoming the explosive Iowa Central Community College offense on Monday, falling 11-1 and 11-3 in ICCAC play in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Before the Hawks (10-9, 2-4 ICCAC) could put a run on the scoreboard, the Tritons already scored five of their own to take a 5-1 lead heading into the fifth inning. Iowa Central pushed across four more runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth to put the game out of reach for Northeast.

Christian Dumont (Bellevue, Neb.), Derek Botaletto (Omaha, Neb.) and Mills Macek (Blair, Neb.) had the lone hits for the Hawks. Dylan Nicholson (Papillion, Neb.) was tagged with the loss, tossing two and one-thirds innings, allowing five earned runs off three hits.

In the final game of the doubleheader, the Hawks tied the game early, but it was Iowa Central that added nine total runs in the final three innings.

Jayden Sinju (Murray, Utah) went 3-for-3 at the plate, with a double, a run and an RBI. Botaletto added two hits in the loss.

Justin Hilton (Lincoln, Neb.) took the loss on the mound, throwing three and two-thirds innings, giving up two earned runs off six hits, while striking out three batters and walking two.

The Hawks battle Midland University JV at 4 p.m. Wednesday in a doubleheader at Veterans Memorial Field in Norfolk.
