Hawks top Mount Marty JV

YANKTON, S.D. – Down by two runs heading into the fourth inning, the Northeast Community College baseball team scored eight runs in three innings to defeat Mount Marty College JV 8-5 on Wednesday at Riverside Field in Yankton, S.D.

The Hawks' (10-7) bats came alive after Tanner Hunt (Elkhorn, Neb.) doubled on a line drive to left field. Hunt would late come around and score on a wild pitch to give the Hawks breathing room.

Future Mount Marty Lancer, David Richardson (Bellevue, Neb.) put the game out of reach for the Lancers, after hitting a solo shot to left field to give Northeast a six-run lead.

Richardson went 1-for-2 at the plate, with two runs, a walk, a home run and an RBI. Hunt was 1-for-3 with a run, two RBI and a double.

Freshman Cam Taylor (Bellevue, Neb.) picked up the win on the mound, tossing four innings, allowing an earned run off four hits, while striking out six batters and walking two.

The Hawks step back into conference play, visiting Iowa Central Community College on Saturday and Sunday with first pitch slated for 1 p.m. on both days in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
